Arachova (duration 15′ – 30′) First day / First stop

Arachova is a tiny picturesque village located at the foothills of mountain Parnassus and the first experience in this private tour. Also is a very popular ski resort, famous for its unique local cheese, called formaela and for variety of handicrafts like carpets and textiles.

Archaeological site of Delphi (duration 60′ – 90′) First day / Second stop

Located at southwestern slope of Mount Parnassus, Delphi is a large archaeological site with a small modern town named after the word “delphini” (dolphin) as Apollo arrived there from Crete riding a dolphin, according to mythology. The most powerful woman of the ancient world, Pythia, influenced through her prophecies important decisions in the oracle of Delphi. Recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO it is one of the most significant and visited sites of Greece as it played a key role in the ancient world.

Overnight in Kalambaka

Meteora monasteries (duration 90′ – 120′) Second day / First stop

Located in central Greece near the town of Kalambaka, Meteora, meaning suspended in the air, is a unique natural phenomenon and among the best visited sites UNESCO has. This geological rock formation occurred about 60 millions of years ago in the Paleogene period with a breathtaking landscape of columns accommodating a complex of orthodox monasteries perched on top of the hills, six of which still function today. They were once only accessible using ladders tied together or large nets but nowadays they are accessible by hundreds of staircases and pathways and makes it the most visited site all year round.

Kalambaka Second day / Second stop

A small pictureusque city on the foothills of Meteora rocks where people who love nature would enjoy a visit to a craven ( Theopetra) which is the only one excavated in Thessaly and in Greece in general. The formation of the limestone of Theopetra is dated back to the Cretaceous period (137.000.000-65.000.000) and the scientific importance is very important for the prehistory of all the Hellenic space.

Plastira’s Lake

The idea for this lake came from a local man who also remained as a prime minister for Greece.The lake was finally completed in 1960 and is used to transform energy from a nearby hydroelectric unit.Apart from this use, nowadays it has become a beautiful tourist attraction.

According to Greek mythology, Thermopylae was the entrance to the abyss of the underworld The meaning of the word is hot gates but today is mostly known for the battle between the Greek forces and the invading Persian forces, that took place in 480 B.C. Therefore became the most famous battlefield in Greece that changed the history of the world.

Trikala & Thermopylae 3days

Trikala is a city located in northwestern region of Thessaly. Built where the ancient city of Trikka used to be and considered the birthplace and main residence of Asklepius, the ancient god of medicine. According to the myth, Asklepius had been such a skilled doctor that he could even raise people from the dead. The archaeological site of Asklepieion of Trikka, the Byzantine castle and the old city of Trikala are some of the main sights visited in the city.
