Monasteries (duration 90′ – 120′) First stop

Meteora, meaning suspended in the air, is a unique phenomenon of cultural heritage as was characterised by UNESCO. This geological rock formation occurred about 60 millions of years ago in the Paleogene period. A breathtaking landscape of columns of rock accommodate a complex of orthodox monasteries perched on top of the hills, six of which still function today. They were once only accessible using ladders tied together or large nets but nowadays they are accessible by hundreds of staircases and pathways and have many visitors all year round.

Kalambaka (duration 90′ – 120′) Second stop

A small picturesque city on the foothills of Meteora rocks. An amazing place for people who love nature and would like to visit a unique craven ( Theopetra) which is the only one excavated in Thessaly and in Greece in general. The formation of the limestone of Theopetra is dated back to the Cretaceous period (137.000.000-65.000.000). The scientific importance of which is very important for the prehistory of all the Hellenic space.

Thermopylae

According to Greek mythology, Thermopylae (meaning “the hot gates”) was a narrow coastal pass and the entrance to the underworld. Though became famous for the significant battle between the Greeks and the invading Persians in 480 BC and for reflecting ideals and virtues such as bravery, self-sacrifice and supporting homeland. It is said that this battlefield changed the history of the world. All these makes it really unique place to visit. There are memorials for the Greeks and a statue representing King Leonidas.
