Acropolis (duration 90′ – 120′) First stop

The place to be when you come in Greece and visit Athens, is the Acropolis ! The greatest heritage bequeathed by the Greek Antiquity to the world. In the second half of the fifth century BC, Athens celebrates the significant victory over the Persians and establishes democracy, achieving a leading position amongst the other city-states of the ancient world. In the years that follow, art and thought flourish and the ambitious Athenian statesman Pericles coordinates a unique group of artists to transform the rocky hill into the exceptional monument also called the “Sacred Rock”. The Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the temple of Athena Nike are the greatest monuments built on it during that time.

Temple of Zeus (duration 15′ – 20′) Third stop

The Temple of Olympian Zeus found in the southeast of Athens is also referred to as Olympieion. Its construction lasted several centuries, from 510 BC to 131 AD and it is one of the greatest ancient temples of Zeus as well as one of the most famous marble buildings ever erected in the ancient world. There were originally one hundred and four gigantic Corinthian columns which only sixteen remain standing today.

Ancient Greek market (duration 45′ – 60′) Fourth stop

The Ancient Greek Agora (market) is the most characteristic example of an ancient Greek marketplace. A large green area that leads up to the Acropolis was once surrounded by stalls, shops, shrines and buildings of various functions. The heart of Athens in the ancient Athens where Pericles, Plato and Socrates once walked and talked. It was the centre of the political and public life, a commercial, social, administrative, religious, sports centre and the seat of justice.We could say that it was the place to be in antiquity. Highlights include the well-preserved Temple of Hephaestus as well as the Stoa of Attalos which is now a museum that worth a visit.
